Leveraging aerial strength to create bendy shapes - Jaime Moore
Silks & Ground Based movement, non-aerial - All Levels
Saturday 4p-530p (UP)
Aerialists of most stripes cultivate shoulder strength through their disciplines, which can feel limiting when it comes to back bending. However, that stability in external shoulder rotation and comfort in protraction conveniently frees up the thoracic spine for movement. On the other side of the tent, contortion training can feel like a series of intense ways to lie on the ground, and setting up prop support can be finicky. Take shoulder flexibility and the horizon of the floor out of the equation, add support from your apparatus, and explore new mobility modes.
This workshop will be primarily silks-based and focused on the mid and upper back (but don’t worry - we’ll also do some splits). It is appropriate for aerialists who are comfortable being in the air for at least 2-3 minutes at a time, although mostly in supported shapes. You do not need to be “flexible” to work on flexibility: this workshop is for anyone who wants to find deeper and more comfortable shapes, whatever those may look like.
Jaime has been a movement practitioner for as long as they can remember and even a bit before, with over 30 years spanning training and/or teaching dance, gymnastics, cheer, acro, yoga, contortion, and most recently aerial arts. They love to explore the entire spectrum of a pathway from most supported to most open variations and enjoy creating shapes in the air with the extra limbs of an apparatus and without the horizon of the floor.
