Silks Hanky-Panky - Jennifer Thies
Silks Hanky-Panky - Jennifer Thies
SILKS/FABRIC - INTERMEDIATE/ADVANCED
SUNDAY 230-4 TH
We have a lot to gain from getting a deeper understanding of our aerial silks moves, and one of the best ways to do that is by looking at our moves from a different perspective. That means finding new ways to transition and flow between moves, and of course doing so by challenging our aerial brains in a fun way! Bring your favorite moves or (very) short sequences to class and with Jennifer’s supervision and guidance we’ll play a game to figure out how to combine them with each other in unexpected ways, making silks hanky-panky and discovering what spawns! Open to all aerialists with intermediate to advanced experience looking to think, laugh, and make silks hanky panky!
Jennifer began her love affair with aerial silks during her last semester of college in 2007. Though she graduated with a degree in architecture and worked in architecture for around a decade, she immediately made room for aerial. She’s only more recently begun cheating on her silks with lyra, rope and sling. And maybe a one-afternoon stand with a trapeze, once. Her training began in Boulder with Cathy Gauch at Aircat Aerial Arts, and has included brief moments of training with a number of gifted aerialists such as Fred Deb in La Baule, France, Cecile Magdeleine and Roman Bonaton of the Lido De Paris, and Cirque Du Soliel artist and stunt woman Petra Sprecher in LA. An artist by nature, she’s explored most mediums of art throughout her life, and aerial is no exception. After many performances including a Devotchka Halloween extravaganza at the Fillmore auditorium and multiple years with the MAX Holiday Fashion show, she opened and ran Relevé Aerial Dance Studio for 5 years before taking a sabbatical from the studio to focus on aerial creativity. A year of exploration down, Jennifer began to share her passion for silks and creativity again by teaching silks and sling at Gravity Aerial Arts, helping teach the Adult Professional Track program with Cirque Du Soleil veteran Jonathan Cole and MOTH artist and owner Deena Markum, and she is currently teaching one of her favorite invented classes “Innovative Aerials” at MOTH where aerial theory is fully and unabashedly explored. She has taught for numerous studios in Denver and given a number of workshops around the country, and continues to enjoy freelance performing around Denver!
