Using Contact Improvisation fundamentals, we will start on the ground and move into partnership with other movers and then into a collaborative partnership with the aerial apparatus (for those who have previous aerial experience). We will explore improvisation techniques for moving in and out of contact with the partner (be it a human, the floor or an apparatus) and learn to track possibilities for choreography as well as for new ideas. This all-levels class can be enjoyed by brand new beginners as well as advanced students as each person will explore from their own experience level using points of contact as an initial inspirational pathway for movement. Joy is an improvisational artist who emphasizes play, storytelling and curiosity in movement. Her deep explorations in contact improvisation and contemporary dance styles have led her to a unique style of aerial dance that takes the viewer on a journey to the depths of their own being, only to emerge shining brighter than ever before. Her teaching style emphasizes curiosity and connection while she facilitates a safe space for the awakening of new possibilities for movement with a partner.
