Tricks on Sticks: Dance/Acro on Stilts - Danielle Hendricks

A workshop for students wanting to refine and challenge their dance and acrobatic skills on peg stilts. We will work on high kicks, jumps, turns, rapid and slow controlled movements and methods to the ground and back up using yourself and other dancers (vs props). Be prepared to do some handstands, back bends, shoulder rolls, as well as some simple acro-partnering. Skills will be spotted by instructor(s), and the spotting techniques will be shared with the students.

Danielle Hendricks, a.k.a. Alexis Scissorlegs, first put on a pair of Stilts in the summer of 2000 at the International Aerial Dance Festival and was immediately hooked. She was trained by David Clarkson of Stalker Theater (Australia) in peg stilt dancing and acrobatics. A competitive gymnast and dancer in her childhood and teenage years, "Dani" took naturally to David's style of acrobatic stilt work and has been choreographing and performing in this vein since 2002 in solo, duet, and group stilt dances. "Alexis Scissorlegs," the Vaudeville/Burlesque persona of Hendricks, has been performing weekly around the Denver/Boulder area at the Clocktower Cabaret and/or with Frequent Flyers, often incorporating aerial acrobatics with stilts. Dani did her first performance with Frequent Flyers since 2000 and has been performing, teaching and choreographing with the company since 2003. She is also a member of Boulder's 3rd Law Dance Theater and a regular performer at the Clocktower Cabaret in Denver.
